A history of the Memory Foam Mattress:
Twenty years ago, NASA developed memory foam as a way of relieving
the G-Forces experienced by astronauts during take off and re-entry to the earth's
atmosphere. The official name for memory foam is viscoelastic foam, although
it may be found under specific brand names. Originally, the viscoelastic foam
used by NASA was not particularly good, and had particularly poor durability.
However, the material has developed significantly over the last two decades,
particularly in Sweden, but also in many other places and the material is now
being used in widely available household equipment such as beds. The closed-cell
structure of viscoelastic foam means that it doesn't bounce, which helps
the foam to mold itself around you. In addition, memory foam is temperature
sensitive, and the warmer your body becomes, the greater the foam's molding
effect.
By molding itself around you, memory foam is able to give your
whole body pretty equal support, which reduces pressure points. A mattress that
gives you fewer pressure points means that you will be less likely to toss and
turn in the middle of the night, which in turn results in more rest and better
sleep for both you and your partner and improves your circulation. Consumers
